Player Plot (Late March - Late April): Alchemy in Manhattan
Maybe, someone of you have already figured it out. But Greed's been planning something - something a bit big. And what is it he's been plotting? Well, let me introduce you to:
Rebellion 101: Greed's Guide to Causing Problems on Purpose
Through the last couple of the months and into March/Early April, Greed has been and will be actively seeking out Tokens. Specifically those he thinks might be able to use their given abilities a bit differently. He's got a reason for this, of course. And he won't be coming in without a little payment of his own.
If they're willing (or if he can convince them to at least give it a try), he will teach them some of the basics of alchemy and alkahestry (via the Murmur or making a Tether, and probably having to spill some of his secrets in the process). And why would he do that, you may be asking? That's simple!
He's looking for a way to be an absolute pain in the ass towards Sleep.
Being a homunculus, he could never do alchemy himself, but he's watched alchemists do it for years. And he was around during the end of the series, so he's got the bright idea of trying to teach someone the basics (AKA alkahestry and counter alchemy) to see if the powers here can do something similar, given the right materials. He would probably try to test it out on a small area in the beginning to see if they can purify/safeguard something (a puddle of water, some questionable piece of food) before moving onto bigger and better things (say around his bar).
The idea is that if they can purify or put up a ward around an area and make it harder for Sleep to influence it, that's a win in his book. I don't expect it to be completely fixed, but the transmutation circle(s) will be able to do something to combat Sleep. However, what they do will all come down to the Token(s) involved.
And he knows the rules. So, he will be using his own blood as payment to strengthen whatever transmutations him and whoever else happen to make. Especially the blocks around where he's set up shop, but that's just a start.
However, it'll come at a cost, but we'll get to that!
➥ Who would be involved? Greed, any of his CR or tethers that want to get involved, and any Token willing to bounce with the devil and make terrible choices. Just let me know whether or not you want Greed to reach out to yours! No worries if you don't! This is a wild idea, after all.
Course, this is also open to anyone and everyone. Time to make bad decisions all around.
➥ Timeframe: He's already started reaching out to people, tipping his idea (vaguely) to Caelus and Silco (sorry buddy, a Sin's gotta keep some of his secrets), and otherwise keeping tabs on the Murmur whenever someone's decided to gather data on the people here. But I'm thinking some of the smaller tests will start sometime in late March, with his bigger test around the 'Nest towards the middle to end of April (I AM CURRENTLY in tax season hell, so APOLOGIES ALL AROUND ... one day, I'll be free)
I've reached out to the mod about this jam, and we'll both be open to questions here (best I can, anyway)! But below are some ideas of what Tokens might be able to play with:
Using Greed's blood is actually going to offer a better kick into making successful barriers/"safe" zones in comparison to a Token using their own blood.
On to the Token types — to make this a bit more challenging and needing some trial and error/reaching out to people (but without leaving anyone out), all Token types could be capable of performing something similar to alkahestry/alchemy, just in different ways and affecting different things. To make it well-rounded, different Tokens will be needed for different assignments:
➥ Aquamancers and Pyromancers: Both Aquamancers and Pyromancers have a purifying ability; aquas are much more passive and peaceful, while pyros are active and aggressive, sometimes painful (since they must burn away the corruption, so to speak, as opposed to washing it away).
➥ Beastkin and Necromancers: Beastkin will have an easier time attempting to safeguard plant life, while Necromancers could purify the soul.
➥ Bloodwrights, Lightweavers, Shadowbinders, Illusionists, and Geomancers: Bloodwrights could purify blood, Lightweavers could make light shields, Shadowbinders could filter the darkness, Illusionist could purify the senses, Geomancers the earth, and so on.
➥ Artificers and Runecasters: The only neutral token types that will not have a set type but could be capable of all elements, just at a weaker state, are Artificers and Runecasters. But to compensate, they will be able to pick up alkahestry/alchemy a lot quicker than anyone else.
(We're also open to more ideas, counting that it fits the Token type!)
➥ The Cost: Now, here's the kicker. If this somehow does work and Greed decides to use his bar (or any other big area), I think having the cost be on him is only fair. The stronger the barrier/transmutation circle, the more he's going to feel it personally. I'm a sucker for symbolism, so he's going to have his own, Daemon overheating ability turn on him whenever he has to put up an especially strong barrier or circle (or keep it up). Alchemy is all about an equivalent exchange. And while he may not seem like the type, he's willing to do a lot in order to keep what's his.
Also, if you know the series, you know how he ends up going out the first time around. Something something, ouroboros, coming back to eat its own tail.
But long story short, your boy is gunna need an ice bath whenever things end up going to complete hell and/or someone who he can willingly (or unwillingly, given permission) possess while he recuperates.
➥ Bonus: The Devil's Nest: For anyone staying with Greed, has a tether with Greed, or is visiting the 'Nest and decides it'd be a fun time to sneak around, I will share some bonus goodies for a roll. Greed has been keeping a list (links are just for my reference so I don't ... completely fuck up what he should and should not know), as well as a map of potential places to try. Funny, that shape looks familiar, doesn't it?
If you want yours to be able to overlay it (or figure out that it even is a map), they'll find that big circle with an arrow? It's exactly where the 'Nest is located.
Important Note: Greed is only taking notes on anything that's Public. If part of the thread's gone private or if the thread is entirely private, he won't have a god damn clue. Additionally, if there's something you think he shouldn't know and it's on his list, PLEASE hit me up because sometimes, I am a dingus. Some of them are wild guesses he can't confirm, but if you'd rather me remove them, no sweat at all!
But down to the rolls! If you want yours to try to find them in the 'Nest, I'll do an online roll. Here's how the numbers will work:
Rolling 0 - 5: Unfortunately, you don't find anything. Greed's got a lot of junk in the place, so you'll probably find something stupid. Why did he hide away a bunch of scratch tickets in a drawer? Why are you asking stupid questions? It's stuff.
Rolling 6 - 8: Ding, ding, ding! You find the list he's been making of potential Tokens. What do the notes mean? Who knows!
Rolling 9: You found the CVS Receipt Map! Hopefully someone you're friends with found the list so you can figure out what the hell it all means.
Rolling 10: Jackpot, baby. You find both the receipt and the map. Now what do you do?
PHEW I know that's a lot! But I'll toss some placeholders for questions, comments, concerns, etc. below. A HUGE THANK YOU to our mod for even entertaining this stupid idea. Hope you guys enjoy it. GO WILD and as always, the world is your oyster.

A Not So FAQ
➥ Will Tethers feel when and if Greed is about to have a physical meltdown? I leave that up to you! But overall answer is absol-fucking-lutely, given the strength of the Tether. They might sense a fever from his end, if they've got a small connection. If the Tether is something stronger, it'll be like a red alert. He's cooking alive, and he's not going to tell anyone shit that he is. He can take care of it himself.
Spoiler alert, he can't.
➥ I Volunteer as Tribute to be Possessed! BOY OH BOY all right. I just hope you know what you're getting into. Being possessed by Greed isn't a pleasant process, here or otherwise. If you know the series, you know what it's like. If you don't? I'll fill you in on the details. But have fun having a 200+ year old creature with an insatiable desire filling up your skull space.
Note (CW Disembodied souls in the image link): Greed doesn't have access to his abilities here, but I've been thinking what he looks inside any would-be host would reflect how it looks when he is possessing someone in Brotherhood. If you need an idea of what that looks like, here's what you'll be working with! I figure there's probably a glassy-looking barrier separating him and the souls since he's cut off from his Philosopher's stone.
I haven't run this past the mods yet, so if this doesn't work, I'll figure something else out. YOU SAW NOTHING ...
And hey, maybe you'll get a cool, temporary hand tattoo for a while. Isn't that neat?
➥ But isn't Greed a bad guy? Why is he doing this? He is really, really good at fooling people. Blame it all on his avarice, acting like he doesn't give a shit when he truly gives far too many shits. He'll deny it had anything to do with helping anyone, no matter how many times he's asked. That's the duality of avarice baby.
Y'know Jessica Rabbit? How she was just drawn bad? Well, he was made bad. But that's the thing about greed. It's not good, it's not bad, and besides. Who said there was ever a problem with too much hope?

If you could just let me know a few things to get started, that would be ace!
You don't have to fill out everything on this form (or use it at all), but I figured it would help give the both of us an idea of where to start:

not necessarily a tether either? (yet? unless? i'm so sorry i just fucking Disappeared) but she did stick around the nest for a bit in all her bratty glory before fucking off bc he offered and also... why not
so if he has no other volunteers he can def come crash in her body and be soul roomies. that feels fair. otherwise she's of 0 help setting up alchemy wise but she makes a rad cheerleader
no subject
withoutwith a cause. And don't even sweat it! If you want a Tether to have started between them, I'm down! Also I am McFuckingLosing it because just imagine her, sounding like this on occasion if Greed does possess her
Congrats on possibly sounding like a guttural fiend from time to time
no subject
posture and all that completely different, way of speaking not only changed but voice has gone down a few octaves in range, he's gone and loosened up her tie bc why the fuck is this woman fully done up in a suit
everyone who meets them in that form like ??? what the fuck happened. the fact that she knows a few exorcists makes this funnier.
if you want to (i think it'd be fun to) we could always backdate a thread to her hanging around the bar before she moves out ooorrrr we do something in the new event (?) i still have to do my tag outs but. yknow. trying to get my brain back.
no subject
And God, fuck. Yeah, YEAH THAT'S EXACTLY how it would go down. He'll be sort of polite, he has some class, but that suit is really crampin' his style, kid. Tie's gotta go. Ever thought about a leather biker jacket?
I am ALWAYS down for backdating threads and trust me, I'm right there with ya. We can be slow together.
But I can hit up her inbox for a 'Nest thread sometime soon, if that works! As well as her event TL. Mom said I could have two threads.
no subject
(but ofc i shall hold onto my shorts until it's all cleared by mod and such)
and obviously if another candidate that makes more sense comes along i will not be offended to swap!!
until then... we will have our backdated ass thread. i don't have the brains to tl so i might just trade u inbox for inbox and hit his up for something in the event mayhap!

Have they publicly said what they can do through the Murmur? Yes.
What ideas do you have in mind? Ash is the "child" of and has had other eldritch beings in her head and manipulating her. I would one hundred percent be down for Greed getting in her head or doing something similar to it. I'm canon familiar with his shenanigans.
Anything else: I'm here for the fun of it.
