Player Plot: Safe Rooms
Silco, a man who needs a project like he needs oxygen, has decided to set up small safe rooms around the city.
tl;dr: Beginning in April, all characters within Sleephattan will be able to find small, fortified rooms spread throughout the city. These will be strong enough to keep out Hosts and other monsters of similar strength, but can't block Sleep's influence.
Gamewide effects: Anyone can use these rooms. No one needs to ask for permission, ICly or OOCly. Please use them however you want to!
They're meant to be used as settings to facilitate RP - for example, if you want an excuse to get new CR, two characters could find themselves in the same safe room for awhile while Hosts wander outside. They are as flexible as you want (within reason). If you want a character to run somewhere for safety, great! Or if you don't want them to find safety - whoops, they're in a part of the city that doesn't have any safe rooms yet. Or they do find one, but it's been broken into and is unusable.
There are no super set locations for these, it's safe to assume that if you want one nearby for RP purposes, it's there, and if you don't, it isn't. Since it takes time to build these, they will be hard to find at first, but over time become more common. Silco will be making some maps (just maps of Manhattan marked up with a pen) to hand out, but there won't be that many and as rooms are built and get damaged they'll go out of date.
The safe rooms themselves are small rooms, things like the back rooms of storefronts, small studio apartments, or other enclosed spaces. They'll be fortified with steel and other building materials and equipped with basic latches on the doors that can be locked from the inside. If you've ever played Left 4 Dead, the safe rooms at the end of levels are the basic idea we're going with. They will be marked with a symbol outside so that they can be found easily.
Inside is... not much. Just some basic, rudimentary furniture (probably things that were already there). For example, your characters may find themselves hiding in a safe room with only one bed. How unexpected! Each one will also be equipped with a very basic first aid kit - essentially just bandages and gauze.
Participation: Building these is a long-term, ongoing project. Silco has already reached out to anyone who expressed to him that they were willing to work with him, so he's got a core group working on things already - but anyone is welcome. In particular, he'll be looking for people with the skills to build and fortify things, anyone who's willing to find and deliver building supplies, and anyone able and willing to scout locations & regularly visit already-built safe rooms to see if they need repairs.
You do not need to have current CR with Silco to get involved with this. The 'project' part of this is also meant to facilitate RP - you can do as much or as little as you want. If you just want to handwave that your character spends some of their free time finding supplies or building rooms, go right ahead! If you want to do threads or logs so that people involved can meet each other and build CR, that's cool too, and I'm happy to set them up if necessary!
The only requirement for getting involved is handwaving (or threading, if you want) a quick initial conversation with Silco. He doesn't trust that there aren't people in the city who would sabotage something like this for fun, so he'd at least want to know every person working on it so that he would know where to start looking if things go wrong. However, while he's the one managing, leading, and organizing the project, he's hired a PR person. Sharon will be making an IC post in the coming days to let the game know this is happening.
Currently Involved Players:

Again, everyone is welcome. Even if Silco hasn't had a good interaction with your character, I promise I can get them involved somehow if you're interested. He has a lot of experience working with people he doesn't like and who don't like him! Or if not, please do use the safe rooms when plotting stuff in the future. (Also, big thanks to everyone who agreed to be involved ♥)
If your characters are suspicious of Silco, they're more than welcome to investigate the whole thing. They will find nothing obviously sinister going on. Which, in its own way, is a little sinister I guess.

QUESTIONS?
Kinda a joke question, but also kinda serious.

INTERESTED?
If your character would have questions or concerns and a thread to address them might be a better route, hit up Silco's inbox here, or let me know and I'll hit yours.

She'd be willing to make a deal and offer him at least one already prepared and fortified safe room, if he were interested in such a thing! Get the network off the ground with something ready to go. He would have to make a deal with her, much as I have no idea what that would look like rn

Yes, Gimme this CR
when you awaken, you will find a compact measuring instrument fitted neatly into your hand; when used on materials, structures, or mechanisms, it reveals stress points, internal weaknesses, and the most efficient way to dismantle or repair them, allowing you to conserve effort and avoid costly mistakes.
Feel free to hit up his inbox if you want Silco to reach out first or vice versa. Ratio probably would be willing to help because it is a good humanitarian idea and excellent chance to test out the compact measuring instrument’s full capabilities on many different materials.

Rosie would be interested in helping out. She's best as a 'face' for operations i.e. can help like Sharon spread the word and make it sound real good. Otherwise, she's small and quick so can scout out potentially more out there/harder to reach locations that might be good for safehouses.
